Hi! I'm John.
I've done a lot of good and almost lost my family in the process...
​In 2006, I married my high school sweetheart. We were in college, and I was working a couple of different jobs to make sure we didn't accrue student debt. Eighteen months later, our first daughter was born - things were pretty busy...
We took a dream job during my senior year of college, and I finished my degree online while trying to prove myself to those who took a chance to hire me so young. We had some amazing success early on, but I wasn't home much. The culture we were in celebrated sacrifice for the cause. And after several years of burning it at every end, I almost lost it all. ​
Fast-forward a couple of years. I took a different job with a different organization, but now as the leader. I got to set the culture, and I thought things would be different, but they weren't. My bad habits and misplaced priorities followed me. "I can't do this anymore..." were the candid words from my wife, Heidi, that changed everything.
I then began a relentless journey of learning from mentors who have led at high levels in their organizations and studying various perspectives on healthy life rhythms. Since that point, although life hasn't slowed down much (I now have five daughters and still lead a growing organization), we now live life intentionally, at work and at home. And I have had the privilege of coming alongside others to do the same.​

Since 2008, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a pastor, helping people discover and live out their purpose with clarity and intention. Along the way, I’ve led two congregations through revitalization, gaining hands-on experience in leadership, organizational growth, and contagious culture.
All those years culminated in developing SMPL, my productivity framework that helps high achievers find clarity, direction, and momentum in the areas that matter most. I'm now sharing the same principles that have shaped my journey, enabling you to thrive at work and at home.
