I almost lost my family while building something good.
In the first few years of my pastoral ministry, I poured everything I had into what I was called to do. However, I was neglecting my role as a husband and father. By every measurable standard, I was winning at work and losing at home.

'I can't do this anymore' were the words my wife, Heidi, shared that changed everything.

That moment sent me on a decade-long search for a better way. I studied under mentors who led at the highest levels of their organizations and tested every framework I could find. But I kept running into the same problem: most systems are complicated and don't ground our work in who we are.
So I built one that does. SMPL is what came out of that search, and it's the same framework I now use, raising five daughters alongside leading a church and running SMPL.
